FAQS

Newborn Sessions

There are a lot of photographers out there. I get it - it can be confusing! How do you look past the investment to choose who is the best fit to be YOUR photographer?
When you are hiring a newborn photographer, there is so much more than pricing to consider! Years of experience, safety measures taken, artistic ability, and your own comfort with someone to capture these moments are all factors to take into consideration.
Pressing pause to capture these fleeting moments is priceless - within weeks, your little one’s looks will change, they won't sleep quite so much, and those sweet curly poses won't be possible. You get only one chance to photograph your little one so new!
You’ll want to look for someone who knows what sounds baby makes when they’re hungry or tired or uncomfortable and how to adjust in those moments, who can customize your session for you - colors, poses, and photos you want in your home…someone who makes YOU their top priority through the entire process.
I do. With over 10 years of experience working with hundreds of newborns, you can be confident in my ability to work with your little one safely while keeping both baby and you comfortable and relaxed!
Candid images you take on your phone are important - seriously, snap away and don’t stop! But, there is nothing that compares to professional images. Contact me to set up your session today!

When should I contact you to schedule my newborn session?
The best time to contact me is while you're still pregnant - the earlier the better!  My schedule tends to fill at least 3-4 months ahead of time.  I'll do my very best to work every session in, but to guarantee your spot, contact me early!

How do we set up the session?
I photograph newborns around their first three weeks, so it's best to set up your session as early as possible!  You'll give me your due date information, we will customize your session, and I'll answer any questions you might have.  Babies arrive on their own time - once baby is born, you'll get in touch with me and we will get the date and time set for your session!

Why do you do the session when my baby is so young?
Newborns change fast - really fast.  In those first three weeks, they stay super sleepy, still a little skinny and wrinkly and most of all, they love to curl up nice and tight for photos...just the way they are in mama's belly!  After those first few weeks, babies start to wake up and become more aware of their surroundings, hit several growth spurts, eat more often, and start filling out.  They look like a totally different baby so quickly!

Where will the session happen?
All posed newborn sessions are photographed in my studio.  I also offer the option of a lifestyle session in the comfort of your home!

What if my baby is premature?
My concern, first and foremost, is for your baby's health and safety.  Of course, if your baby is premature we will wait until he or she is home and healthy!

What if my baby is more than three weeks old?
I am more than happy to photograph babies of any age!  As babies grow out of those first few weeks, we can expect to get more photos with baby awake, alert, and wrapped.

What will I need to do during the session?
Relax!  When your little one comes, you'll rarely get to sleep or have time to yourself.  I want you to relax and feel as comfortable as possible while I take care of the "work." I will rock, snuggle, change diapers...pretty much everything except feed baby.  You are welcome to sit and watch me work or enjoy snacks, TV, or even a nap in my sitting area!

What does the session include?
You can expect the session to be 1.5-2.5 hours, but we will schedule a 4 hour block of time just in case.  Baby runs the show!  If they need a snack break or a cuddle, we will take it.  My goal is to keep baby (and you) as comfortable as possible!

I provide all of the hats, headbands, wraps, blankets, and props.  You're welcome to bring something special along to include as well.

You'll receive a same-day sneak peek and your gallery within two weeks of the session (often much sooner).

What should I wear?
My studio will be a very toasty 82 degrees when you come.  Newborns can't regulate their own body temperature on their own, and it's necessary to keep it warm for their comfort. If you plan to be in photos, a neutral tank top or fitted tee is perfect!  If you're comfortable, skin to skin is wonderful for intimate photos, or we can create more drama with a drape or gown.

If you have more questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch with me!

Family Sessions

When should I contact you to book my family session?
Anytime!  Some seasons are busier than others, so if you need a weekend date for your family session, it's better to try and get booked earlier - especially in the fall.   I have family packages booked for two years out in my schedule, so you can set up as many or as few as you would like, as early as you would like!

Where are family sessions held?
That's up to you!  We can do a studio style family session indoors, a lifestyle session in your own home, or go to an outdoor location.  I am constantly looking for new, beautiful locations and I have several suggestions I can make, based on what look you want to create!

What do we need to bring?
Family sessions will include not just photos of the whole family, but also I encourage photos with each parent individually, siblings, and each little one alone.  We will take posed photos and also candids along the way.  My goal is to capture your family in their element - playing, snuggling, laughing, and even some of the serious, quiet moments.  You can bring up to three outfits.

What do we wear?
I'll be happy to help you choose colors, styles, and an overall look for your family session!  I suggest staying within one color family (pastels, neutrals, jewel tones, etc) and then playing with patterns and pops of color.  This is a wonderful time to celebrate each family member's individual style!

What time of day are family sessions held?
If you choose an outdoor session, the best light is first thing in the morning or later in the evening.  Since I am a natural light photographer, indoor sessions are ideal somewhere around mid-day.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with any other questions you have!  I'd love to work with you and your family!
